Board of Trustees extend university president鈥檚 contract through 2029

鈥淪ince stepping into the role of president, Dr. Fitzgerald has strengthened Alvernia's academic offerings, expanded its community partnerships, and elevated its position as a regional hub for innovation,鈥 said Alvernia Board of Trustees Chairperson Gregory J. Dr. Fitzgerald, who began her tenure as Alvernia鈥檚 seventh president in July 2023, has played a pivotal role in the university鈥檚 ongoing success. Under her leadership, Alvernia has expanded its experiential learning opportunities, strengthened community engagement through its CollegeTowne initiative, and enhanced student success programs. Her leadership has also helped the university navigate challenges in the higher education landscape with a commitment to academic excellence and financial sustainability.

In addition to her work at Alvernia, Dr. Fitzgerald has a distinguished career in higher education, having served as provost and senior vice president at Alvernia prior to her presidency and holding leadership roles at Central Connecticut State University. She is a respected scholar and an advocate for inclusive excellence in higher education.

Fitzgerald鈥檚 leadership extends deeply into the community and beyond. She sits on the Central PA Advisory Board and the Corporate Marketing Committee of Caron Treatment Centers. She is the Vice Chair of the Reading Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
